How does Acronis True Image Online work?
After purchasing the subscription service, client software is downloaded to your PC or laptop and installed. You launch the application, choose the files to be backed up and then set the schedule. This takes only a couple of minutes. Acronis True Image Online does the rest. It automatically backs up and protects your information without further user involvement.
When you need to recover a file, you can either use the application on your PC or log in to your Acronis account from any Internet-connected PC and select the files or folders to restore.
How do I select the files I want to back up?
Acronis True Image Online provides three options for selecting files. On the main screen, click on "Options" and then "What to Back up".From there, you can either select "Categories" of files, "Document File" which is by file type extension or "folders" which is a traditional Windows Explorer-like tree structure. Check the boxes for the files and folders you want protected and then press the "Save and close" button.
The initial backup will be the longest. Actual time depends on (A) how much data there is to backup and (B) how fast your Internet connection is. Most customers usually find that they can back up roughly 2-5 GB/day.
How often should I back up my data?
Most people backup their data daily. Some choose to backup weekly; others choose to backup multiple times per day.
If my PC is turned off or my laptop is disconnected during my scheduled backup, what happens?
Your service will not be able to back up your data for that date or time. It will back up your data at the next regularly scheduled time. When you do turn your machine back on, you could manually initiate a backup selecting the "Backup Now" button on the main user screen.
How frequently can I backup my data?
Backups can be scheduled hourly, daily and weekly. At any time, you can select the "Backup Now" button and manually start a backup.
How long does it take to complete the backup?
The initial backup will be longest. Actual time depends on (A) how much data there is to back up and (B) how fast your internet connection is. Most customers usually find that they can back up roughly 2-5 GB/day.
After the initial backup, Acronis True Image Online only backs up the files that have changed since the last backup. These incremental backups usually only take a couple minutes.
Can I access my files from the web?
Yes, even if you don’t have a client, you can access all the data you’ve backed up anytime from our website.
Are there any limitations on types or sizes of files I backup?
The only limit is the amount of Acronis Storage space of your subscription
How do I restore a file?
There are a couple ways to do this. You can open your Acronis True Image Online application from your PC or laptop or log in to your Acronis account at https://www.acronis.eu/my/index.html and select the "Recover My Data Now" button.
From there, you choose the date and time of the backup you want to access.
Next you select the files or folders to be recovered.
Then you select the location on the PC to save the file to. This PC can be the original PC or any other Internet-connected PC.
How long does it take for me to restore a file?
While Acronis cannot control the Internet or your internet connection, most file restores take just a few seconds.
Can I restore files to a dissimilar machine with Acronis True Image Online?
Yes, you can use any Internet-connected PC to access your files. Log in to your Acronis account at https://www.acronis.eu/my/index.html and select the "Recover My Data Now" button.
How do I find a file to recover if I do not know its complete filename?
In the main screen, there is a search function on the top right. You can enter part of the filename and Acronis True Image Online will find all saved copies of files whose names match what you typed.
What if I want to recover a file and I am not sure which version I want?
In the main screen, there is a search function on the top right. You can enter the filename and Acronis True Image Online will find all saved copies of files containing the filename. You will see all backed up versions of that file with their associated size and date/time stamp. Select the version you want to restore.
How do I know how much online backup capacity I have left?
In the main screen, you will see the "free space" text and underneath that line you can read how much available, unused capacity you have.
My backup did not run as scheduled. What happened?
Check to see if there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point to the right of the Next Backed Scheduled Date and Time. If this appears, you need to add your Windows name and password credentials to your PC.
Acronis True Image Online will not run without these settings configured.
To set your Windows credentials:
- Open control panel of your PC
- Select Users account,
- Choose your current user and set the password for it.
- You may need to reboot your PC.
A yellow triangle appears next to be Backup Scheduler. What does this mean?
If this appears, you need to add your Windows name and password credentials to your PC. Acronis True Image Online will not run without these settings configured.
To set your Windows credentials:
- Open control panel of your PC
- Select Users account,
- Choose your current user and set the password for it.
- You may need to reboot your PC.
Can I use my PC or laptop during the backup?
Yes, Acronis True Image Online can run at the same time as other applications without impacting system performance. The service is pre-configured to run at a low Windows Priority setting, meaning your other applications get priority for CPU and system resources. This setting can be adjusted if you choose.
Most users configure their backup schedule to execute when they are not using their machines, eliminating any performance concerns.
Will Acronis True Image Online impact my Internet connection bandwidth?
While Acronis True Image Online necessarily must use up some network bandwidth during data transmission, you can easily limit its allocated bandwidth to minimize the impact on your other applications during the backup process. When you press "Resume", the backup will continue from the point that the backup was suspended.
Most users configure their backup schedule to happen when they are not using their machines, eliminating any performance concerns.
How do I know if a backup has been completed?
There are a couple ways.
First, the service will tell you that it completed its backup and provide a date/time stamp.
Second, on the bottom of the main screen of the service, there is a rolling bar of dates. Each completed backup for a specific date will have its timestamp.
What happens if my Internet connection is lost during a backup?
Acronis True Image Online will try to reconnect in the event the connection is lost. When the connection is re-established, the backup process will continue from the point of the disruption. Users can set the number of connection attempts and the time intervals between attempts in the "Options" tab, then select "Settings" and then "Connection Attempts".
What if I need to shut down my PC during a backup?

Encryption keys provide data protection so that only you can access your files. You only have one chance to set your encryption key and that is when you first register a PC to the Acronis True Image Online service. You will be given the option to enter your personal encryption key. This key is then used in all of your backups. Acronis has no ability to recover your encryption, please do not lose it.
I forgot my encryption key. What can I do?
Acronis has no access to your encryption key or ability to recover it. You must start over with the backups for that PC. Delete your PC from the Acronis True Image Online service. Restart your computer. Log in to the Acronis True Image Online service and enter your new encryption key. You will be required to perform the initial back up again from the beginning.
